Living the College Life at the Y!

Woah...I'm a college student. My life dream has been to be a Cougar at BYU and that dream came true as I spent summer semester at the Y! I took 3 classes AND got a job at the BYU Creamery. Let's just say that after a brutal 2 months of straight studying and worked, I have learned my lesson and will not do summer semester again haha As I moved in, I got to run into such great friends like Anna Parker, Drew Horne, and Chloe and Rachel Lunt as they were at EFY. I was scared to death living on my own and it was hard saying goodbye to my mom but I am thankful for that opportunity to live on my own before I headed out on my mission! My ward, the Provo 31st is the greatest ward as they were super welcoming and they put on SO MANY social events together! My roommates were Brooke, Brittany, and Emily. I had so much fun sharing a room with Brooke and being her final roommate as she then got to meet her soon to be fiance, Cory Gill. Just being able to meet Cory and live her romance and relationship with Cory was a blessing! I loved always having her there as she was so helpful to me learning to live on my own! I made the GREATEST friends with my coworkers and more specifically, Abbey Barker. I got to talk with her and hear about all her marriage adventures and all her experiences being PREGNANT! I did a ton of running as I am training for my marathon so my favorite run was the temple to temple run (Provo City Center to Provo Temple) It was about 6 miles and I loved running past the MTC just thinking about how soon I will be there! I got to run into some great people at BYU like Sister Jackson as she came to see me at work! (She has been my Peterborough YW President) I also got to find a couple running buddies who only managed to run with my like once. My favorite memories was temple trips with my friends Brooke Carling and Hunter. Hunter was also preparing to go on his mission to Mexico so he got to baptize us! We traveled around to do baptisms at multiple temples such as the Provo City Center, the Provo, the Payson (MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE), the Timpanogos, and the Draper Temple. Finally, before I was headed home, my greatest friends Amber and Taylor joined me at the Y to hike the Y, go to the temple, walk down Center Street in Provo, get ice cream at the Creamery, and walk around Campus. I LOVE these girls and am so excited for their college adventures! I am thankful for the fun memories I was able to make this summer semester especially as I became close with the Visiting Teaching companion, Julianne Capito, and Ashlyn Harston, our girl we visited. We went swimming together, went to 7 Peaks, scootered to Hokulia and back, and had some wonderful lessons together. Although I wasn't able to do much because I spent my days in the library, I'm so grateful for the little things. :) I'm proud to call myself a Cougar! As I walked out of the testing center after my final final, I thought to myself, "I AM DONE FOR 2 YEARS" It was a great feeling and now my next stage in life is my mission!! I absolutely love BYU and am looking forward to spending the rest of my college career as a Cougar! P.S. I made the Deans List at BYU this semester!
Checking out my apartment. This was my kitchen! I loved doing everyone's dishes for some reason...it was the best. Also I spent many hours scrubbing these floors with my roommates for cleaning check and we PASSED so we celebrated with sub sandwiches.

Brooke and my clothes

My momma and me in the vanity room
Campus Plaza Apartments was a BLAST with Brooke! It had a VB Court, a swimming pool, and a great ward who always put on game night and ward prayer. I joined my ward sometimes as we went out to see a movie, played 4 Square, and played games together!

Getting my BYU ID!

Thanks to Drew, he gave me some silverware and food! He's the greatest friend and he will be joining me in the MTC on the SAME DAY for 9 WEEKS! Except he's speaking Korean and serving in South Korea!!

Anna Parker lives right down the stairs from me!

Rachel and Chloe! I love these girls!

I went to the BYU New Student Orientation and ANNA BERREY ended up being in my group! She has been my best friend from the Nashua Stake so I had tons of fun with her as we hung out at NSO together! I also got to meet Isabelle and she is SO MUCH FUN! We all partied together at the dance and competed together in the Dating Game. I ended up taking 3RD PLACE! It was so much fun!

For Harry Potter's birthday, I got together with a coworker and friend, Hannah, to go to the Wall to chat and participate in all of the activities. It was so much fun as the Wall was decked out in Hogwarts decorations along with chocolate frogs and polyjuice potions. We even got a butterbeer and watched a magic show! It was so fun to geek out at the Harry Potter party!

I got to meet up with Sister Jackson at work! I lover her!

At the Creamery I was a cashier and on occasion, I would help out in the restaurant or the grill. I got to relive my ice cream scooping days! In addition, I got to stock milks so I had a little fun in the milk fridge. I always ended up belting songs as I restocked milk and people would open up the fridge to grab their milk as I sang...it was the best haha

This is my physical science study group! After hours of studying, we went out to In-N-Out (for my first time) to celebrate. One thing I learned in college was to get involved in STUDY GROUPS! I cannot say enough how much that helped me as we all met up in the library and verbally studied and combined our thoughts and ideas together! I ended up getting an A in that difficult class thanks to these guys!
I had TONS OF FUN meeting up with Chelsa and going on some CRAZY adventures together! We went to Happy Sumo to get the GREATEST Sushi at the adorable Riverwoods Outlet Mall! We then went over to the Provo Lake and walked along the nasty, muddy beach. Our feet were caked but it was so funny! We ended up finding a random pipe with a bunch of pelicans and figured we should probably turn around and go back. I love Chelsa! And I had a blast!

This sick wall we found at Riverwoods.

The random pipe haha we also found some creepy animals here so that was an adventure!

My ward had tons of fun activities together. We were involved in a multi-ward activity OLYMPIC competition! There was javelin with pool noodles and discus with the frisby. We also had shotput with a plastic ball! We had tic tac toe relays and sand volleyball. We did service projects, tug a war, water balloon tosses, and best of all...FREE FOOD! My team was team Turkey and we ended up WINNING! IT was so fun and I had a great team!
In my ward, I was an FHE mom and I helped to put together FHE activities. This was my first one and it was unsuccessful haha we were trying to chew and eat gum through whipped cream but we ended up running out of whipped cream and the gum dissolved. Oh well, it was fun to watch and experience!

AHH Temple trips were my FAVORITE THING in the world! I would go with Brooke and Hunter and it was such an uplifting time of my week!

The Provo Temple

The Provo City Center Temple

The Payson Temple

Brooke had to have been my best college friend. I still remember on my first day of classes, I walked into the  HFAC and saw a girl sitting there and asked her where the Music 101 class was. She told she had that same class so we then became instant friends. We had all of the same classes together and even had the same physical science class together! She has incredible talent in baking and we spent many hours studying together! We went on Jamba Runs and couldn't stop laughing in science class haha

Chilling in science class!

This is an example of one of my meals at college...tbh I ate cereal most meals and straight canned vegetables haha the college life is the best.

My temple to temple runs! These were my FAVORITE!

Brooke surprised me one day when she and Cory rented a dog or "adopted a puppy" for an hour. The dog hated us and tried to run away from us multiple times haha it was fun laying out on a blanket and playing with a dog with these guys though!

The love that the puppy has for us in displayed in this image.

I got to go bowling with Kyle, Cory, and Brooke. I got like 45 points while they all got like 120....I think it's talent to be this bad haha but Cory and Kyle are literal pros. They have competed in bowling.

These are my scooter buddies, Julianne and Ashlyn, as we went out to get shaved ice on our scooters a mile away!

I came home to spend time with Taylor and Alyse! I said goodbye to Alyse as she was headed to BYU Hawaii for 2 YEARS!

I had the greatest time spending a day with Taylor and Amber as they joined me at BYU! We hiked the Y, went to the temple, went to get gourmet cupcakes and ice cream from the BYU Creamery, and walked around campus together. I love these girls!!

We made it to the Y!

I got to hang out with Chelsa again as we went to the Nickel Arcade together! You buy a bunch of nickels, then play tons of games. We got a bunch of tickets but could only afford some cheap bracelets and fortune fish haha afterwards we went to get shakes at Sonic it was so fun!

I spent my final days at BYU with the lovely Kate Cliff. She truly has been SO SWEET as we watched Gilmore Girls together and went out to lunch together. She has been such a fun coworker and fun friend to walk to Waffle Love together!

Saying goodbye to Kate!

My momma picking me up from BYU! See ya in 2 BYU!

CALLED TO SERVE

I never thought this day would come but I received my mission call in the mail and I was STUCK in Provo!! I had to wait until the weekend to find out where I will be called, the call I've been waiting for my entire life! The day finally came where I went home to have so many wonderful people there to support me open my call. We had a map with tons of guesses and no one was near my call! My mom wanted me to go to Italy so badly haha when I finally opened my call, I teared up as I read, "Dear Sister Olsen" as I have been waiting to hear those words! I then proceeded to read, "You have been called to serve as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. You have been called to labor in the Adriatic South mission..." the minute I read that I was so confused. I was expecting stateside but felt that I was going foreign. I also all my life thought I was going spanish, but when I received my call and held it in my hands, I knew I wasn't speaking Spanish. As I continued to read my call, it said that I would preach the gospel in the ALBANIAN LANGUAGE! At the point I had no idea where I'd be going haha all I knew that the Albanian people are now my people and they will bless my life as much as hopefully I will bless theirs! I cannot wait to serve and I report on October 12th! My mission is the countries of Albania, Kosovo, and Macedonia. I AM SO EXCITED to put on that tag and be a representative of Jesus Christ!

All the guesses for my mission. Who knew I'd be going to EUROPE!
My mission.

As you can tell I'm pretty excited!

I am so thankful for all of my friends that came to support me! I was blessed to have my grandparents there and my grandpa to say the prayer before I opened up my call.

Two "Sisters" :)

Taylor and me!!

Amber and me! She booked it over after work and I was SO EXCITED to see her!

I ended up getting an Albanian flag and hung it up in my appt next to Brooke's Nicaraguan flag.
